With the official publication date of The Matter with Things on Tuesday 9th November, this last week has seen Iain take part in live events with Perspectiva, How To Academy and Rebel Wisdom as well as recording new discussions we hope to share with you shortly. An interview with Tom Bilyeu was also released on Thursday 11th November as well as a discussion with Ivan Tyrrell both of which you can see below.
We are pleased to now inform our worldwide audience of the availability of the new book on Kindle (amazon.com) and hardback (the Book Depository).
If you missed Iain live on stage in London you can still see him on Tuesday 23rd November with John Cleese – another event hosted by the brilliant How To Academy.
Pre-launch party with Perspectiva
You can watch Jonathan Rowson, Director of Perspectiva, the publishers of The Matter with Things, share why he believes this book is absolutely necessary today. This is followed by Iain giving a speech about the book and why he wrote it, and audience members who share their experience of reading the book.
Tom Bilyeu and Iain McGilchrist discuss The Matter with Things
Iain McGilchrist, renowned psychiatrist, author and thinker joins Tom to share some of the key ideas he writes about in his latest 2 volume book, The Matter of Things. Part of what he proposes is that you keep an open mind and be aware that the ideas and images people are so strongly influenced by are in fact myths and stories. The version of what you see in your reality matters to what you decide to see and live your life by.
“It doesn’t matter what you look at, it matters what you see.” – Henry David Thoreau
So much of what the world is and who we are is not understood. To think you fully grasp the complexities of consciousness, matter, space and time would be wildly ignorant. Iain perfectly quotes psychologist William James, “ignorance is a sea and knowledge is a drop in that ocean” In this conversation Iain explores ideas of how little we truly know about the cognitive function of the left and right hemispheres of the brain.
Ivan Tyrrell and Iain McGilchrist
Dr Iain McGilchrist joins Ivan Tyrrell – co-founder of the human givens approach and director of Human Givens College – to explore the content within his new book – The Matter With Things – Our Brains, Our Delusions and the Unmaking of the World.
Dr Iain McGilchrist is committed to the idea that the mind and brain can be understood only by seeing them in the broadest possible context, that of the whole of our physical and spiritual existence, and of the wider human culture in which they arise – the culture which helps to mould, and in turn is moulded by, our minds and brains.
